The mosaics in Diocletian’s Palace date back to the late 4th century and early 5th centuries A.D. They were made in the mosaic workshop in Salona, and where discovered in 1905 after a building next to the Vestibule was demolished. Originally, they were a part of the courtyard of a Roman building, but the buildings and roads built through the ages have split them into two parts.
One can be found just as you exit Diocletian’s Cellars through the eastern exit under the Vestibule. A part of this mosaic is also located in the Ethnographic Museum (ground floor). As you exit the cellars, you can walk over a replica of the mosaic, while the original one is protected by a fence. The other part of the mosaic can be found behind the Catedral of Saint Dominus.
