The Vestibule in Split (Croatian: Vestibul) was once the entrance point to the imperial corridors in Diocletian’s Palace. It is a circular court, about 12 meters in diameter and about 17 meters high, with an opening on the top that was once topped with a dome. It served as a grand meeting hall for select audiences of high importance.
It can be accessed directly from the Peristyle and sits directly above the entrance to Diocletian’s Cellars. The bell tower of the Catedral of Saint Dominus can be seen through the opening on its top.
The shape of the Vestibule gives it amazing acoustics, which the local folk groups, Klape, make great use of; you can often hear them sing in the Vestibule over the summer months.
