Gripe fortress (Croatian: Tvrđava Gripe) is a baroque fortress built from 1647 to 1682 to serve as a defense point against the Ottomans. In the 19th century, it was transformed into a Habsburg military base and remained a military operations base all the way to the 20th century.
Gripe fortress is open to the public, and inside it you will find many cannons that remain from the gunpowder era, the Croatian Maritime Museum, the Croatian State Archive, and the Art Academy of Split.
